Job Purpose

As a Senior Business Intelligence Developer, you'll be based at our offices in London and liaising directly with customers and the wider BI team in relation to issues or planned outages of any of the BI Applications.


Assisting the Development Lead, the successful person will manage BI Applications (currently comprising of SAS, Hadoop and QlikView) ensuring high availability and maximising the performance of these applications, ensuring they are fully functioning and available for the company's analytics professionals.


The responsibilities of the Senior Business Intelligence Developer role are:
  1. To fully engage with the business to understand and where appropriate to challenge application needs.
  2. To ensure adherence to departmental standards / process to ensure consistency across the department so that applications built are efficiently and effectively maintained.
  3. Assist Development Lead with management of Business Intelligence applications (currently comprising of SAS, Hadoop and QlikView) ensuring high availability, maximising the performance available to the company's analytics professionals.
  4. To prioritise, plan, monitor and report on allocated projects / small change to ensure delivery is within timescale, to budget and management are kept informed on progress.
  5. Providing estimates of work received and ratifying these estimates based on experience / facts.
  6. Creating designs and delivering designs, evidencing requirement translation through to design, data profiling, build and testing.
  7. To coach / mentor team members building up technical skill / capability within the department.
  8. Responsibility for release control and promotion of content between BI environments.
  9. To contribute to the planning and delivery of the Department’s Operating Plan and actively participating in team meetings and 121 sessions.


The skills, knowledge and expereince you'll need for this Senior Business Intelligence Developer are:

You will be one of the department’s technical gurus with specialist advanced knowledge in the following areas:

  • Technically trained / capable in BI platform development, must have hands on experience developing solutions, demonstrating advanced programming skills in languages such as (R, SAS, Python and SQL).
  • Experience in BI application Administration incorporating basic windows / unix server skills.
  • Experience in following a software development lifecycle, including requirements capture, design, build and testing.
  • In depth understanding of the mechanics/architecture of at least one BI Application (SAS/HADOOP/SQL Warehouse).
  • Understanding of data warehousing methodologies and techniques.
  • Testing experience.
  • Data profiling experience.
  • Experience with Public Cloud BI deployments.
  • The role requires the highest level of technical skills in turning data into information through manipulation and analysis. As such, the ability to adopt and use new software is very important.
