    Commercial Underwriter – Open Market:  

    Are you an experienced Commercial Underwriter looking for a new challenge?  Do you enjoy trading, negotiating and building profitable Commercial accounts?  Do you consistently deliver excellent service?  


    Ageas Insurance is seeking an energised and technically adept Commercial Underwriter to join our Gloucester team dealing with brokers throughout the Midlands, South Wales and the South of England.


    The Commercial Open Market team work in partnership with brokers to make the most of every opportunity whether it’s working with us as a panel insurer, or on an individual basis. We listen to what our customers need and tailor our response accordingly. We ensure that the Ageas team is a positive addition to the broker’s business. We proactively spend time with our key customers to understand what matters to them.


    Here are some of the accountabilities of the Commercial Underwriter role:


    • Underwrite new business and renewal at optimum premium and terms, and within company appetite and strategy to deliver the planned growth and maximise profit and rate strength.
    • Be a confident and professional trader
    • Develop flexible and cost effective solutions to meet needs or all customers, ensuring customer visits add value and are appropriately documented and followed through.
    • Be forward thinking and plan ahead, taking ownership for delivering work on time and with minimal supervision.
    • Provide reports and analysis as requested, including information for key accounts as requested and report effectively in terms of performance where required.
    • Make recommendations for improvements in order to achieve Company growth strategy.
    • Act as an advocate for Continuous Improvement throughout the business.
    • Travelling to other offices and clients is required, driving licence preferred.


    To be successful in being considered for the Commercial Underwriter vacancy you need:

    • A minimum of Cert CII or similar level of technical insurance qualification or actively working towards it would be preferential.
    • You’ll be skilful in communicating difficult messages, negotiating and using your technical commercial insurance expertise to bring about the best outcome for the client and the business.
    • Have great organisational skills and experience of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Be smart when it comes to numeracy, particularly when analysing financials, underwriting and reporting data.
    • Strong attention to detail, especially whilst interpreting and analysing appropriate data.
    • Wider knowledge of the commercial insurance market, with an understanding of the underwriting market.
