Commercial Underwriter Technical & Development – Open Market:
Ageas are seeking a proactive and passionate individual to join a team of technically minded Commercial Underwriters. As a Commercial Underwriter you will be directly involved in leading on a number of projects. The right candidate will be energised about furthering a career as a Commercial Underwriter in a broker facing role, with opportunities to develop and manage a strong portfolio as well as individual case handling of larger complex risks
Due to the external relationships with accounts and brokers, our Commercial Underwriters need to have a flexible and adaptable working approach. The Commercial Open Market team, work in partnership with clients to make the most of every opportunity whether it’s working with us as a panel insurer, or on an individual basis. With the service we deliver at the core of all we do, we listen and design something to suit the needs of the client. You will be excellent at improving the Commercial Open Market profile by partnering the business both externally and with internal stakeholders across a number of functions and UK locations.
Here are some of the accountabilities of the Commercial Underwriter role:
Provide an exceptional service to our Broker Partners by fully understanding their requirements and applying the correct solution for both parties.
Build and maintain relationships with customers, ensuring all customer visits add value, include case prospecting and are appropriately documented and followed through.
Underwrite new business for profitable growth and maximise every opportunity to achieve renewal retention targets.
Undertake detailed analysis and effectively review all of their broker panel and report in terms of performance and make recommendations for appropriate adjustments to the account where required.
Working with the Senior Underwriter forge close professional working relationships with your brokers and internal stakeholders to ensure successful retention and growth of new and existing relationships.
Coaching colleagues to develop their technical underwriting and their sales, negotiation and trading skills.
Handle technical referrals from less experienced colleagues in order that business can be dealt with effectively within correct authority levels.
Travelling to other offices and clients is required, driving licence preferred.
To be successful in being considered for the Commercial Underwriter vacancy you need:
A minimum of ACII/Diploma or similar level of technical insurance qualification or actively working towards it, would be preferential.
Have great relationship management or business partnering experience. You’ll be skilful in communicating difficult messages, negotiating and in using your technical commercial insurance expertise to bring about the best outcome for the client and the business.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, through proven strong organisational skills.
Numerically precise, particularly when analysing financials, underwriting and reporting data.
Be an expert when it comes to assessing technical risk, applying regulatory requirements within the commercial insurance sphere, or in making decisions within your authority on all aspects of the products you handle.
Skilled in underwriting experience in property, pecuniary and liability classes of insurance.
You’ll be proficient in policy and endorsement wording reviews and have a high competency of using Excel to manipulate data that drives informed decisions.
