    Trainee Actuary

    Permanent - Full Time

    Start date: November 2018

Trainee Actuary: The Ageas actuarial team provides a collaborative environment, in which you can learn, improve and grow. Your development will be at your own pace; whether your priority is to undertake a wide range of additional responsibilities, or to make yourself a reliable part of a solid team. Despite being an international organisation and one of the largest insurers in the UK, there is very much a “family feel” of co-operation and team spirit. We aim to ensure consistent delivery and to reach the right answers in the most efficient way. We are looking for analytical people with a passion to learn, the curiosity to dig deeper and the willingness to challenge the status quo.  At Ageas, you will be provided with the tools you need to build your career, including the necessary qualifications and a variety of experience.

The actuarial department provides insight to the business, enabling management both to make the right decisions, and to understand the impact of them. As a Trainee Actuary in London, you will be involved in the production and interpretation of such management information. You will also help with the evaluation of reserves and monitoring of claims trends, using appropriate actuarial and statistical methods of analysis, which you will learn through your studies and on the job. A major part of an actuary’s role is communication; as you progress in your career you will work more closely with our Underwriting, Finance and Claims teams to advise them, using the understanding gained from your analysis of business data. This exposure to multiple technical specialisms, across a range of our products, will help build your knowledge and expertise and give you variety in your work.

To apply for this role, please submit your CV and a covering letter, addressed to the Chief Actuary, containing details of:

    • Why you wish to work for Ageas
    • Why have you chosen actuarial, and general insurance in particular
    • A time that you have showed initiative to find a solution to a problem

Main Responsibilities -As part of your role, you will be expected to:

    • Produce data reports using SAS and Excel.
    • Assist in the production and interpretation of actuarial and statistical pricing analysis to make recommendations in support of commercial business decision making.
    • Assist in the evaluation of reserves and monitoring of claims trends.
    • Assist in maintenance, research, development and upgrading of new and existing actuarial and statistical models that underpin our corporate pricing decisions.
    • Challenge systems and processes to make them as efficient as possible.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience -We are looking for people with:

    • Good attention to detail, and the tenacity to investigate data issues and put the effort in to get to the right result.
    • Integrity and a professional attitude.
    • A willingness to learn and push for your own development.
    • The ability to learn new IT systems and coding languages. Some existing coding skill is an advantage, though not essential.
    • The motivation to undertake the study required to do the actuarial exams, and an ability to manage these demands alongside the role (financial support and study days will be provided).
    • A degree in Mathematics/Statistics or equivalent.
